Why not spend the most beautiful day of your life on the most beautiful island in the Mediterranean?
”A lot of people dream of marrying right on the sea with their feet in the sand”,as Anne Schwarzenbacher, a wedding organizer in Mallorca for many years, well knows. Her agency ‘Mallorca Event Factory‘ which she runs together with Thomas Zöller makes that dream, and many more, come true. Just like a growing number of similar agencies who have specialised in those couples who wish to make their marriage vows under the sun of Mallorca. Marriages in Mallorca are very trendy. No wonder, considering what exceptional locations and romantic settings the island has to offer.
By helicopter or horse-drawn carriage
Whether on a rustic country estate or an enchanting finca, in an olive grove or in the midst of vines, in a beach club, on a sailing boat or in a little, discreet chapel – there are many wonderful places to get married. It is also possible in the sea with the help of diving schools, or even in Palma Aquarium in the shark tank. Or those who prefer to marry in the air can use a hot-air balloon or a helicopter. Those who prefer to stay on land can be transported by horse-drawn carriages or donkey-carts to the altar and afterwards to a romantic picnic – anything is possible.
”One of the most popular settings is the small, white pavillion of Son Marroig, the erstwhile country estate of the archduke Ludwig Salvator. The sea views on the Tramuntana coast are simply overwhelming” Anne Schwarzenbacher reports.
Timely planning in advance is important
First of all it is important to know that a marriage in Mallorca is recognized in most European countries. In order for a civil and/or church marriage to take place, however, at least one of the engaged couple must have been registered on the island for at least 6 months, ie. be able to prove a place of residence. For this purpose a simple registration certificate is sufficient, the ‘certificado de empadronamiento’.
With both a civil and a church ceremony a certain amount of burocracy is involved and certified translations of birth certificates and certificates of no impediment are required. With a church wedding the priests and clergymen of the Catholic and Evangelical community are available. Most important is timely planning, particularly so as the chapel or church, just as the location for the celebrations, should be reserved up to a year in advance.
This is especially important when the wedding is due to take place in May or September – without doubt the loveliest, and for weddings the most popular months on the island.
Everything else must, however, also be perfectly organized even if the couple have already wed in their own country and are planning a lavish celebration with a special ceremony, a speaker and invited guests – a very popular alternative.
Everything from a single source
No matter how the wedding is planned it is essential that professional agencies are involved. Mallorca Eventfactory, for example, not only have the necessary contacts but also offer detailed planning and all-round service. They help with finding a location or have firm suggestions, for example with the music whereby live music, a DJ, or even Mallorcan folklore – everything is possible. Whether table decoration, styling (for the bride too), the photographer, the priest or speaker, the timing, the logistical organization or the babysitter – weddings must be organized individually and with an eye for details.
But also after the wedding, guests who stay afterwards and have the time and inclination to experience something special can also be assisted by the event organizers. Assistance can also be provided by the agencies with regard to the wedding feast and recommend an appropriate caterer, be it for a buffet or a menu, vegetarian or Asian, Mallorcan or anything else. Creative cooking on the island knows no borders, whether in a Michelin-star restaurant or with your own chef or catering at home in the finca.
”It is all about the details” says Thomas Möller who loves to give a Mallorcan touch to the details, for example little presents for the guests in the form of local olive oil or similar things (a further ‘weakness’ is also her lovingly-prepared flower arrangements).
What will your wedding in Mallorca cost?
The minimum budget should be at least 5.000 euros, whereby the maximum amount is open-ended and depends in the first place on the number of guests. Whether 20 or 200 guests, the effort is always similar – even with a relatively small number of guests it is always possible to create a fantastic wedding celebration.
Especially important is, of course, to have a ‘plan B’, as even in August sudden bad weather can happen.
In all cases it is important that during the initial discussions recommendations are made and a budget plan is in place, alternative locations viewed, food tested, and all other situations planned and prepared so that on the big day everything is perfect.
Special fincas for weddings
For those who wish to choose the right finca for themselves and their guests Porta Holiday offers magnificent possibilities with stylish country houses perfect for such great occasions. For example, a grand event-finca with 8 suites and 7 gardens in the north of Mallorca near Santa Margalida, or a similar property in the middle of the island close to Manacor, as well as a breathtaking luxury-finca with pool and wellness zone in Canyamel in the north-east of Mallorca. Just so that you and your guests feel as if you are in a fairy tale.
